HTML5 is ready to use today, and I will show you how to use it in your Drupal themes. During this session, you will learn the answer to these questions:

  • What is HTML5?
  • What features does it offer me?
  • How do I set up my themes to use it?
  • How well supported is it?

By the end, you will see that converting your themes to HTML5 can offer you real benefits, and will position you to easily take advantage of new features as they become available. With its focus on graceful degradation, there’s no reason to delay. Learn how HTML5 can help you!

This session is intended for intermediate-level theme developers. You should have a healthy interest in markup, and not be afraid to open a .tpl.php file, but you don’t need to know PHP.

We will be introducing some of the new elements, such as Article, Section, and Video, but not the new APIs like drag-and-drop or geolocation.

…and it totally rocks! The depth of knowledge Scott has in HTML5 and theming is truly impressive. A true well-spoken net citizen!

Presented by a company who spams

So, I just got spam in my mailbox from this company asking that I vote this session up. For this reason alone, I’m voting it down.

Just so that everyone knows

The DrupalCamp LA website is not set up the same way that other Drupal conference websites are. We (the DrupalCamp LA organizers) just want to get a general headcount for each session so that we can match the sessions to appropriately sized rooms when we finalize the schedule a day or two before the camp.

This method of picking sessions is also designed so that people can pick the sessions that they plan to attend and have those sessions appear in their personalized schedule. So, don’t go picking all the sessions you want to show support for but don’t plan to attend. It will turn your personalized schedule into a mess.

Whether or not “vote for this session!” campaigns actually help produce better conferences, another reason we don’t offer voting is because results always get skewed in favor of the sessions that are submitted earlier than others.
